Skill Development Projects to Help Poor Rural Youth

The Union Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned 148 placement linked skill development projects covering more than 400 districts in the country so far. Under the Special Project component of Swaranjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY)/National Rural Livelihood Mission, the Ministry is implementing placement linked skill development projects through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Under these projects, rural BPL youth between the age group of 18-35 years are trained by Project Implementing Agencies to develop their skills in various trades with a view to get wage employment. The Ministry has formulated guidelines for smooth running of the placement linked skill development projects like procedure for release of funds for implementation of the projects as well as monitoring and review of the projects at State and Central level. This information was given by the Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Pradeep Jain Aditya in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
